Activities 2001 - 2009

    2001

    In 2001 the fund has begun its activities with the motto “Help us if you can“. Classmates, friends and teachers of Dorothy have organized a collection for helping children who suffer from cancerous diseases. The fund right away in June was able to help five children who suffered of leukemia and nine more in December.

    Paint artist Tibor Kopócs decided to help these children by making still-life paintings on which he worked for several months. These paintings were exhibited in December 2001 in Komárno under the title of “Still-Life Paintings in memory of Dorothy Kantha”.

    In 2001, the Fund of Dorothy Kantha has raised over 134 251 Sk for the children suffering from leukemia and other cancerous diseases. 50 000 Sk of this was given to the Children’s hospital in Bratislava.

    These gifts were presented to the children in order to make their process of recovery and their lengthy weeks in the hospital more tolerable for them and to prevent them from falling back in their studies by providing a way to learn like their healthy classmates in elementary and nursery schools...

    2002

    At the beginning of March the fund has sent out informational material to the regional elementary- and high schools of Komárno to encourage students, parents and teachers of these schools to join the fight against cancer. Countless students and hundreds of adults have joined the prevention- and instructional program under the name of "Day of Daffodils". The most active participants were the students of the Komensky Elementary School, the Selye János high school, the Drien Street Elementary School in Bratislava and the Elementary School in Keszegfalva. On The Day of Daffodils the fund has received donations of over 19 490 Sk.

    In early summer, with the help of the Fitness Center in Komárom the fund has organized the cultural program of "Children For The Children". The programme was very successful, as on the stage of the Amphitheatre in Komárom, over 263 participants had performances including students of various elementary- and high schools and the students of an elementary school in Győr. It was a heart-breaking experience to see as healthy and mentally challenged children have performed their acts together. From the charitable entry fees over 17 050 Sk was raised to help other children who suffer from cancer. During this programme the fund has handed over material gifts of over 100 000 Sk in value to the Oncology Department of the Children's Hospital in Bratislava, and has given gifts of books, toys and money to additional 9 children worth 68 550 Sk.

    At the end of July in Farná a mountain-bike race has begun, which was organized by the local touristic and cyclist club. The "Farná XC Cup of 2002" had the following motto: "Let's support cancerous children with sport!" The organizers have given a donation of 11 145 Sk to the fund from the entry- and registration fees.

    In the beginning of September, The Eötvös Street Nursery School, The Nursery School Community of Komárno and the Fund of Dorothy Kantha together have organized the First Football Marathon of Komárno with the motto "Let's support cancerous children with sport". There was an enormous interest about the marathon, that’s why matches have been played until 10 o'clock in the evening. Teams of five have matched up against each other, playing 37 matches without a break. 370 participants have joined the programme, including students of nursery-, elementary- and high schools even universities. Over 400 sports fans have cheered at the players in the sports hall. The fund’s income has been 10 850 Sk.

    In November in the halls of the Dunamenti Museum the Borostyán band has held a charitable concert. A sum of 11 400 Sk in total, -donated by the members of the audience- has been given to the Fund.

    The Artistic School in Komárom and the Fund of Dorothy Kantha together have organized the "1st Charitable Christmas Concert" in which students, teachers of the school as well as members of the chamber orchestra Comorra have performed. The Fund's income from the donations was 25 100 Sk, which was given to the elementary school located next to the Children’s Hospital in Bratislava to help their work. The Fund has given Christmas presents and money to additional 15 children in value of 81 950 Sk. Christmas is the most beautiful holiday of the year. With the gifts presented, we wanted to help cancerous children in their recovery and to support their families in funding the expensive treatment, during which the harmful side effects of the chemotherapy are removed.

    2003

    In the beginning of the year The Organization of People Suffering from Civilization Diseases has organized a charity collection on their annual conference and their carnival gathering to help children suffering from cancerous diseases. Money raised this way, 12 440 Sk in total has been donated to the Fund of Dorothy Kantha. The most active base organizations were the ones in Megyercs, Komárom and Bajcs.

    In the beginning of March, The Forum Informational Center has held its market called "Quango Exchange". The program's aim was to make the audience familiar with the work of organizations operating outside the government that are located in the regions of Komárno, Érsekújvár and in Hungary. Visitors could also have an insight into the goals of the fund. During the program, we have distributed various informational materials, that explained the method how can one make a private donation to the Fund of Dorothy Kantha by offering 1% of their duty.

    On 4th of April the Day of Daffodils has been held again, where students of the surrounding elementary- and high schools in Komárno have been distributing daffodils. The aim of this programme was to draw attention to the fight against cancer. Students on that day have collected 38 000 Sk in donations for the Fund. The most active students were the ones from the elementary school in Nemesócsa, The Komensky str. elementary School, the Eötvös elementary school, the Elementary School in Kolozsnéma and in Csicsó and the students of the Selye János high school. Children from the Eötvös nursery school have joined the event as well. In April, additional donations have arrived to the fund from the Commercial Academy, the elementary school in Keszegfalva, Work street elementary school in Komárno and the Drien street elementary School in Bratislava - 10 002 Sk in total.

    The Odyssey of the Mind - the program of creative problem solving is one of the greatest competitions amongst children and younger generations. The Slovakian organization of The Odyssey of the Mind has organized a program with the name of Eurofestival 2003 - The Odyssey of the Mind lasting from 24th to 28th of April. Several people have gathered from Germany, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Moldova and Russia. Participants have been introduced to the activity of the fund and over 500 informational sheets have been distributed. The programme ended with a charitable concert on which we received 4000Sk and 50 Euros as donations.

    13th of June was once again about children when the cultural programme "Children for Children" has been held. Over 195 children had a performance during the programme, they were all greeted with refreshments and presents by the organizers. The biggest interest was drawn by the play of mentally challenged children; the gymnastic performance of students from Újgyalla, performance of the folklore band Dunajíček and by the modern dance performance of children visiting the Leisure Centre in Komárno. At the end of the programme, performers have all sung two songs together on stage. The peak point of the event was the moment, when 300 balloons were let in the air by the participants of the show in the spirit of anticancer fight. Spectators had donated 6700 Sk for the foundation, that didn’t forget children who couldn’t come for this occasion either. On 3rd of June, various toys were given for every children in the children’s hospital in Bratislava in 15 000 Sk of total value. In addition, 10 children suffering from cancerous diseases have been given material help of 53 000 Sk.

    The Second Football Marathon in Komárno, has been held on the 29th of November, 2003 and took from 10 a.m. until midnight to finish due to the great interest from the players. 68 teams of five were playing during the Marathon, and spectators could enjoy 203 goals on 34 matches. The atmosphere was outstanding all day. 4 referees have watched over the matches and thanks to our sponsors, we were able to give 35 footballs to the teams of the I. and II. category (children under the age of 20). Aim of the foundation with football marathon was to draw people’s attention to the fight against cancer. We have made people discover, how much sport can do for our health and also could support the recovery of children suffering from cancer. Income from the football marathon was 12 250 Sk, mostly consisting of entry fees from the players.

    The II. Christmas charity concert was organized on the 15th of December, 2003 in the Ceremonial hall of the Tiszti Pavilon in Komárno. Organizers of the concert were the Fund of Dorothy Kantha and the Art School in Komárno. Performers have been the students and teachers of the school. Special guest of the night was the guitarist, Zsófia Boros, who graduated from the Academy of music in Vienna. Guests of the concert were those children, who were treated with chemotherapy along with Dórika in Bratislava. We have given them Christmas surprises. Income of the foundation from the concert was 20 500 Sk, which was given to a primary school next to the Children’s Hospital in Bratislava for its improvement. The peak moment of the programme was when material gifts have been handed over to the Children’s Hospital in Bratislava in over 200 000 Sk of value. The foundation asked the doctors and nurses of the hospital to help them choose the equipment that would help the recovery of the children the most. The following equipment has been bought for the hospital: 2 infusion pumps, medicines and a scanner for copying x-ray- and CT-snapshots. The Christmas concert has been of a high quality and the foundation could show again, how healthy children can help their fellow ill mates.

    2004

Money raised this way, 12 532 Sk in total has been donated to the Fund of Dorothy Kantha.

    Day of the Daffodils was held on the 2nd of April, 2004. Local elementary- and high school students have been distributing daffodils for the third time in the history of the fund. Aim of the event was to draw attention to the fight against cancer and to the fact that the number of people suffering from cancerous diseases increases from year to year. The most active participants were the students of the Komensky elementary school, the Selye János high school, the Drien street elementary school in Bratislava and the Elementary School in Keszegfalva. On The Day of Daffodils the fund has received donations of over 47 300 Sk.

    4th of June was once again about children due to the amusing afternoon of Children’s day on the stage of Tiszti Pavilon in Komárno for the third time. Over 241 children had a performance during the programme, they were all greeted with refreshments and presents by the organizers. The biggest interest was drawn by the play of students of the Eötvös elementary school, the drum solo of Dávid Hodek, the play of mentally challenged children; the gymnastic performance of students from Újgyalla and by the performance of the band Rosnička from Ógyalla. The peak point of the event was the moment, when 300 balloons were let in the air by the participants in the spirit of anticancer fight. Spectators had donated 9 700 Sk for the foundation.

    The Fund of Dorothy Kantha together with The Fund of Miroslav Šatan and the organization NEO had organized the „Football match of Stars” on 26th of June. The Slovak stars of sport: Miroslav Satan, Lubomír Visnovsky, Róbert Vittek, J. Ledzéni, J. Muzlay, P. Satan, P. Cvik, E. Satan, famous humorists: Stano Radic, I. Maiga, P. Habera, J. Grexa were playing against the team of stars of Komárno, in which we could find Németh Szilárd, Szabó Attila, Rafael R., Szabó Z., Jankovic, Polcik and Peltzner. From the charity entry fees and tombola’s 62 000 Sk has been collected, from which 31 000 Sk was given to the foundation. The programme was very successful as it had more than 2500 spectators. The score of the football match was a 6:6 draw. The peak point of the programme was the moment, when Miroslav Satan in the name of his foundation has handed over a donation of 100 000 Sk in value for 4 cancerous children. The same way has Maria Kantha given 5 children a present of 100 000 Sk in value. The Match of Stars finished with a distribution of signatures, making a lot of adults and children enjoy this charity programme.

    The Third Football Marathon in Komárno, has been held on the 30th of October, 2004 and due to the great interest from the players matches have been held up to late night hours. In 5 categories, 74 teams were playing during the Marathon, and spectators could enjoy 180 goals on 37 matches. Amongst the teams, 4 women’s teams have played as well. We have made people discover, how much sport can do for our health and also could support the recovery of children suffering from cancer. Income from the football marathon was 12 500 Sk, mostly consisting of the 20 Sk entry fees from the players.

    Fund of Dorothy Kantha and the Art School in Komárno had organized the Third Christmas Charity Evening together. More than 70 students had a performance during the programme. Special guest of the concert was the pianist Škuta Miklós. The foundation has given a donation of 15 850 Sk to the primary school next to the Children’s Hospital in Bratislava. This money has been collected fom the charity entry fees. The peak point of the event was the moment when the foundation gave material gifts in 500 000 Sk of value to the lead surgeon of Children’s Clinic in Bratislava. The gift contained a Philips type ECG System, a HP type computer and printer, non-allergic bed-linen, medicines, Christmas decorations, books and DVDs. Besides these, the foundation gave material presents and gifts of money to 10 additional children in 41 000 Sk of value.

    2005

Money raised this way, 11 440 Sk in total has been donated to the Fund of Dorothy Kantha.

    Day of the Daffodils was held on the 8th of April, 2005 that was organized by the Fund of Dorothy Kantha with the help of The Anticancer League. Local elementary- and high school students have been distributing 4000 daffodils. Aim of the event was to draw attention to the fight against cancer. The most active participants were the students of the elementary school in Nemesócsa and in Csicsó, the Eötvös and the Work street elementary schools in Komárno; the Selye János and L. J. Šulek high schools and the Drien street elementary school in Bratislava. On The Day of Daffodils the fund has received donations of over 62 550 Sk. This way we could send gifts to 13 children of 75 000 Sk and presents of an additional 1000 Sk.

    In 2005, the Children’s day programme was held on the 27th of June on the stage of the Tiszti Pavilon in Komárno. Over 240 children had a performance during the programme, the biggest interest was drawn by the play of students of the Eötvös Elementary school, the drum solo of Dávid Hodek, the play of mentally challenged children; the gymnastic performance of students from Újgyalla and by the show of the Nádas club. It was the club, where Veronika Várföldi has performed, who has absolved the chemotherapy along with Dorothy. The peak point of the eve was the moment, when 300 balloons were let in the air by the participants in the spirit of anticancer fight. Spectators have donated 12 700 Sk for the foundation. We didn’t forget about the children who couldn’t come to the occasion either: we have given 5 walkmans with earphones, cassettes, DVDs, toys and books of 25 000 Sk in value to the patients of the Children’s clinic in Bratislava.

    The Fund of Dorothy Kantha together with The Fund of Miroslav Šatan and the organization NEO had organized the second „Football match of Stars” on 23th Jule. Famous sportsmen and TV stars of Slovakia have appeared in the guest team, like Miroslav Šatan, J. Ledzéni, P. Satan, P. Cvik, E. Satan, Rasto Pisko, Ibi Maiga, Robo Beno. Similar stars have formed the home team, such as Attila Szabó, J. Ferenczi, S. Koncz, M. Martonosi, Zoltán Szabó, J. Kufel and Gyuri Peltzner. Organizers paid a great attention to make the event well advertised. Thanks to this, the event had 2500 spectators and 60 100 Sk has been collected from the entry fees. Half of this was given to the Fund of Dorothy Kantha. The match ended with a 7:7 draw. After the match, Miroslav Satan has given gifts of money to 6 ill children in 140 000 Sk of value. After this Maria Kantha had presented 13 cancerous children as well with gifts of money in 140 000 Sk of value and material gifts of 25 300 Sk in value. The Match of Stars finished with a distribution of signatures, making a lot of adults and children enjoy this charity programme even more. The income of the match was given to 6 children by the foundations, who were residents of a camp helping cancerous children in Barretstown, Ireland. Besides this money an additional 30 000 Sk has been sent to the children.

    The Art School in Komárno and The Fund of Dorothy Kantha had organized the fourth Christmas charity evening together on 12th December. On this occasion, the foundation had given material- and money donations to 10 children in 30 000 Sk value. Furthermore, the Fund of Dorothy Kantha presented the Children’s Clinic in Bratislava with two special monitors in 500 000 Sk of value. Along with this donation, the overall sum of money given to the oncology department of the Children’s hospital in Bratislava has surpassed 2 500 000 Sk. On the charity Christmas concert the foundation had given 80 000 Sk to the primary school in front of the Children’s Hospital in Bratislava making the school joining the project called CowParade possible. The foundation received this money from the organization called “Nadácia pre deti Slovenska”. During the Christmas concert 25 900 Sk has been collected from the donations of the audience. From this money and other sources we were able to send gifts to additional 15 children as presents of 3000 Sk in value and gifts of money of 80 000 Sk.

    2006

    The charitable programme “For Children with Hockey” was organized by the Fund of Dorothy Kantha and the ice hockey club Hurricanes in Komárno. Amateur hockey players of Komárno formed a team that was lead by Tibor Horján and faced the team of VIP Bratislava made of celebrities and public figures. The captain of the opposing team of star guests was Jozef Lohyna and various other sportsmen from Komárno have strengthened the team such as Mihály Riszdorfer, Richárd Riszdorfer, György Tarr and Zoltán Szabó. Spectators could enjoy an exciting match, that had a final result of 1:10, yet the real winners were the children. Altogether 11 200 Sk in donations has been collected for them. In the breaks, children could compete on the ice as well. The mini competition has been won by Attila Pipper, student of the Jókai Mór elementary school.

    In the beginning of the year The Organization of People Suffering from Civilization Diseases has organized a charity collection on their annual conference to help children suffering from cancerous diseases. Money raised this way, 8 060 Sk in total has been donated to the Fund of Dorothy Kantha.

    In April, together with the Anticancer League, the foundation had organized the Day of Daffodils for the fifth time. The Flower shop Florist Tímea had given 5000 little plastic daffodils to the foundation, that were once again distributed by the students of local elementary- and secondary schools in Komárno and its outskirts. Aim of the event was to draw attention to the fight against cancer. The most active participants were the students of the elementary school in Nemesócsa and in Csicsó, the Eötvös and the Work street elementary schools in Komárno; the Selye János and L. J. Šulek high schools and the Drien street elementary school in Bratislava. On The Day of Daffodils the fund has received donations of over 66 110 Sk in total.

    In June, the children’s day programme “Children for Children” has been held on the stage of Tiszti Pavilon in Komárno for the fifth time in its history. Over 220 children had a performance during the programme, the biggest interest was drawn by the play of students of the Eötvös Elementary and nursery schools; the play of mentally challenged children; the gymnastic performance of students from Újgyalla and by the singing presentation of the students of the Komensky street and Selye János high schools. The peak point of the eve was the moment, when represents of the foundation have handed over a donation of 20 000 Sk to the principal of the elementary school in front of the children’s clinic in Bratislava. This way the school could finish their project on arte-therapy and could engage in creating bracelets and necklaces and could try out painting on glass and linen. At the end of the show, participants along with their parents have sung two songs then 300 balloons were let in the air in the spirit of anticancer fight. Spectators have donated 10 500 Sk for the foundation.

    The Fund of Dorothy Kantha together with The Fund of Miroslav Šatan and the organization NEO had organized the third „Football match of Stars” this time in the Vion stadium in Zlaté Moravce. Patroness of the event was Iveta Radičová. She started the match with the first kick along with Serafína Ostrihoňová, mayoress of Aranyosmarót. The 600 spectators could witness an exciting match once again, seeing such figures on the field as Miro Šatan, Peter Bondra and Ibi Maiga along with Attila Szabó,Zoltán Szabó and „Pulyka” in Šatan’s team. The match has ended with an 8:8 draw. The three organizing institutes together have donated gifts of over 220 000 Sk of value. Gift of the fund was 100 000 Sk from this. The Match of Stars finished with a distribution of signatures, making a lot of adults and children enjoy this charity programme even more. The income of the match for the foundation was 7 500 Sk from entry fees and tombola’s.

    In the beginning of December, the local city government of Nagymegyer has organized a charity night together with the parents of Gergely Nagy, who has passed away. Gergely Nagy has been fighting his disease for 4 and half years. Performers of the programme were the choir of the Bartók Béla elementary school, György Derzsi, Martin Malachovsky and the chamber orchestra of the art school in Nagymegyer. For the proposal of the Fund of Dorothy Kantha, guitarist Zsófia Boros and the violin virtuoso Tibor Bertók have performed as well. Residents of Nagymegyer and the surrounding cities have collected a sum of 300 000 Sk in total for charity purposes. Peak moment of the night was Ágnes Nagy presenting a symbolic checkbook of 100 000 Sk to the principal of the Children’s hospital in Bratislava. A similar donation has been given to the organization of Plamienok and to Maria Kantha, JUDr. , manager of the Fund of Dorothy Kantha.

    The foundation together with the elementary school in front of the Children’s hospital in Bratislava has organized a Christmas exchange in the front hall of the Children’s hospital. Teachers and volunteers have been offering goods made by the children –postcards, vases, candles and other small ornaments- on the location. Children have been crafting these ornaments as a part of their arte-therapy treatment. The income of the event has been 24 069 Sk.

    The Fund of Dorothy Kantha and the Art School in Komárno had organized the Christmas Charity Evening together for the fifth time in its history. This time it has been held in the Culture Hall of the city. In the hallway, various crafted goods were exhibited, all made by the children including cups, painted glasses, shirts, necklaces, postcards and candles. . Children have been crafting these ornaments as a part of their arte-therapy treatment. In the concert hall, atmosphere has been outstanding again; performers once again have been the students of the art school. The Fund has given a donation of 100 000 Sk to the children who have been treated against cancer. Besides this, the Children’s Clinic in Bratislava has been donated special bioptic needles of 200 000 Sk in value. The income of the charitable concert, namely 23 000 Sk have been given to the elementary school next to the hospital. Besides the above mentioned donation, an additional 12 700 Sk have been handed over to the parents of Máté Borka by the representatives of the foundation and by the mayor of the local department of Izsa. This money has been collected on the conference between the local authorities and the fund.

    2007

    The charitable programme “For Children with Hockey” was organized by the Fund of Dorothy Kantha and the ice hockey club Hurricanes Komárno. On this tournament, three teams have matched up against each other. The amateur hockey players of Komárno formed a team that was lead by Tibor Horján. The team of Sport V.I.P. Bratislava made of Miloš Mečíř, Jozef Lohyňa, Ľubo Roman and local sport figures like Mihály Riszdorfer, Richárd Riszdorfer, György Tarr and Zoltán Szabó. The third team, HC Kramáre has been made of various doctors from Bratislava. Spectators could enjoy an exciting match and during the breaks they could witness the fabulous performance of the acrobatic skater girls from Tatabánya that has been a very big success. Altogether 19 000 Sk in donations has been collected, this way the foundation could help the recovery of the young Adam Sátek from Bátorkeszi with 25 000 Sk.

Money raised this way, 8 060 Sk in total has been donated to the Fund of Dorothy Kantha.

    On 13rd of April,2007, together with the Anticancer League, the foundation had organized the Day of Daffodils for the sixth time. The Flower shop Florist Tímea had given a big box of little plastic daffodils to the foundation, that were once again distributed by the students of local elementary- and secondary schools in Komárno and its outskirts. Aim of the event was to draw attention to the fight against cancer. The most active participants were the students of the elementary school in Nemesócsa and in Csicsó, the Eötvös, the Komensky street- and the Work street elementary schools in Komárno; the Selye János and L. J. Šulek high schools. On The Day of Daffodils the fund has received donations of over 65 020 Sk in total.

    On 8th of June the Fund of Dorothy Kantha with the Leisure Center of Komárno has organized the children’s day programme “Children for Children”. Over 228 children had a performance during the programme. Spectators have donated 11 900 Sk for the foundation. The peak moment of the event was when Mária Kantha has been handing over donations to the parents of cancerous children.

    On 10th of December The Fund of Dorothy Kantha and the Art School in Komárno had organized the Christmas Charity Evening together for the sixth time in its history. In the first part of the orchestra, students of the art school were in the spotlight, performers included the chamber orchestra of the school, Zoltán Benkó and Tibor Bertók. After the play of the young actors, Maria Kantha has handed over presents in the name of the foundation, mainly to the small patients of the oncology department of the Children’s Clinic in Bratislava: in value of 100 000 Sk. 5 children treated in the bonds of the Lángocska organization have received gifts in value of 60 000 Sk and additional 15 children have been given 100 000 in total. At later stages of the programme, dancers have been entertaining the audience. Pupils of Andrea Hodek and Éve Berecz could show their talent on the stage. In the second part, Ondrej Čižmár, oncologist of the Children’s hospital has accepted the donations of Ceragem brand massage beds in the name of the clinic. These massage beds will be used by the patients of the department. In the final parts of the show, teachers of the art school amused the audience with their brilliant play and singing talent. From the donations of the audience, 40 100 Sk has been collected during the night.

    2008

    The charitable programme “For Children with Hockey” was organized by the Fund of Dorothy Kantha and the ice hockey club Hurricanes in Komárno. Once again, Tibor Horján, leader of the HK Hurricanes has been the head organizer of the event. This time four teams joined the tournament. Along with the HC Kramáre from Bratislava, the Sport V.I.P. and the local HK Hurricanes, the team of HC Kojetín from Moravia has joined the fight as well. The complete income of the tournament has been given to two local boys, Peter Prohászka and Ferenc Csillag by the Fund of Dorothy Kantha. At both of the boys, bone cancer has been diagnosed, in the meanwhile one of Peter’s legs had to be amputated and Ferenc was looking forward to an operation in Prague. One of the most cheerful fans of the doctors’ team from Bratislava was in fact the little Peter Prohászka. In total, 46 800 Sk has been collected from the income of tournament, yet the fund of Dorothy Kantha has given 30-30 000 Sk to the boys to help their recovery!

Money raised this way, 9 575 Sk in total has been donated to the Fund of Dorothy Kantha.

    In April, together with the Anticancer League, the foundation had organized the Day of Daffodils for the seventh time. The Flower shop Florist Tímea had given 5 boxes of little plastic daffodils to the foundation, that were once again distributed by the students of local elementary- and secondary schools in Komárno and its outskirts. Aim of the event was to draw attention to the fight against cancer. Student have started preparations for the event back during the Easter holidays. 130 student have prepared 4500 daffodils to be distributed on 11th of April. The most active participants were the students of the elementary school in Nemesócsa and in Csicsó, the Eötvös and the Work street elementary schools in Komárno; the Selye János and L. J. Šulek high schools and the Drien street elementary school in Bratislava. According to the participating student, more and more people are expressing their solidarity with the ill children and the number of people offering their help increases as well. The event created by the Anticancer League has an informational purpose as well: spreadsheets and various informational material is distributed along with the daffodils to draw attention to the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the necessity for checking our medical results every now and then. On The Day of Daffodils the fund has received donations of over 60 100 Sk in total.

    On 15th of December The Fund of Dorothy Kantha, the Local Culture Centre and the Art School in Komárno had organized the Christmas Charity Evening together for the seventh time in its history. Before the concert, visitors could buy small Christmas presents in the hallway that has been prepared as a part of our Christmas Exchange programme. In the first part of the orchestra, students of the art school were in the spotlight, performers included Júlia Bundová, Matej Jakubík, Éva Baranyai, András Ölvecky who has sung a poem by Händel. Edina Török has played the piano and Kristína Márkusová has been playing on flute. As the closing bit of the first part, the chamber orchestra of the school have presented their play. After the play of the young actors, Maria Kantha has handed over presents in the name of the foundation to the cancerous children present at the programme in the value of 25000 Sk (829,84 €). In addition, 12 children have received a gift of a total value of 100000 Sk (3319,39 €). The oncology department of the Children’s Clinic in Bratislava has received a gift of 500000 Sk (16596,95 €) in the form of projecting systems, LCD televisions, folding beds and armchairs. At later stages of the programme, dancers have been entertaining the audience. Pupils of Andrea Hodek, Éva Berecz and Mrs. Lacko could show their talent on the stage. In the final parts of the show, teachers of the art school amused the audience with their brilliant play and singing talent. At the end of the show, Maria Kantha has told her best wishes for the holiday and thanked everyone for participating in the programme with particular attention to the audience for coming and supporting the fight against cancer. From the donations of the audience, 43900 Sk has been collected during the night.

    2009

    It has been the 4th occasion that the “For Children with Hockey” charitable programme has been held. Organizers have been the Fund of Dorothy Kantha, the HK Hurricanes Komárno, the 1. SC Como and the Slovak Gasworks Foundation. The tournament took from 9 am until the late hours.6 teams have qualified for the tournament: Komárno was represented by the team of Hurricanes, HC Kojetín from the Czech Republic, V.I.P. Hungary and Slovakia was represented by 3 teams from Bratislava : the Lakeboys, the HC Kramáre and the McDonald’s Slovakia. Spectators could enjoy exciting matches and were entertained by artistic skaters from Bratislava and Budapest during the breaks. The tournament has been won by the team of McDonald’s Slovakia, yet the real winners have been the children this charitable programme was meant for. For them, over 996 Euros have been collected during the event.

    Day of the Daffodils was held on the 17nd of April, 2009. Local elementary- and high school students have been distributing daffodils for the third time in the history of the fund. Aim of the event was to draw attention to the fight against cancer and to the fact that the number of people suffering from cancerous diseases increases from year to year. The most active participants were the students of the Ľ. J. Šulek high school, Gáspár Sámuel elementary school in Csicsó, the Munka street elementary school in Komárom, the Rozmaring and the Komenský street elementary school, the Eötvös street elementary school in Komárom, the elementary school in Nemesócsa, the Marianum in Komárom and the Jókai Mór elementary school. On The Day of Daffodils the fund has received donations of over 2406 EURO (72498 Sk).
